“Daddy, it’s so bright here” Holly exclaimed, shielding her eyes.
“That’s because it’s spring, so it’s always warm and the flowers are always in bloom.” Holly’s father replied as he took her hand.
“That’s good, I love flowers. But it is a little hard to see and the light is hurting my eyes.” She said, as her small hand was completely enveloped in her father’s and she smiled.
“Don’t worry, your eyes will get used to it. It’s just my love that’s burning so bright. It will keep you warm.” Her father said, returning her smile.
“I am warm,” Holly bounced in place. “Can I go run and play in the fields now?”
“Give me one more moment with you, I just want to remember this, and I’m not sure when I will be able to see you again.”
“OK daddy.”
Holly felt the calling, but could never say no to her father. She loved him dearly and enjoyed their time together. They stayed there for what seemed like forever, standing in the warm light. Finally, she could not take it anymore. The calling had become too strong.
“It’s time daddy, I really have to go.” Holly finally said.
“I know,” he responded, with tears forming in his eyes. He smiled at her.
Reluctantly he let go of her hand and watched as she ran off into the light. Holly had a smile on her small lifeless lips. The sun shone through the silent hospital window, but provided no warmth.
